Lacy meets the family...

Lacy went walking with me Thursday. We went to mom's work to walk and played ball while we were there. She enjoyed exploring, but was so funny when she decided that she was ready for us to go home. She would take the ball and put it in front of the truck. Then when I would start around the track again she would stop and just look at me, like I can't believe you are going around this thing again. She loves for you to throw the ball, then when she brings it back, she likes to stand on her back legs with her front paws on your arm. I think she thinks she is human. She also likes to be carried. Me carrying her is a funny site, but today Brook had her carrying her around. Brook is 11 and probably 85 pounds and Lacy is almost as big as she is. The girls met Lacy last night. It was late, but she was excited to see them and gave them a nice warm welcome before going to the kennel for the night. She loved them and they loved her. We had a hard time keeping Lacy out of the house today. She is just too smart. Mama bought her some new toys yesterday. She has had a good time playing with them. She has done a great job of staying on her leader the past few days. I try and let her off as much as possible so that she doesn't feel the need to escape. Tonight, when we got home from our adventures, I let her off before putting her in the kennel. I was checking my email and I heard something, she was trying to get in the kennel. That girl was ready for bed. I guess that's enough for now. Mama was telling daddy about the daily adventures Lacy gives us. My daddy was laughing about her escaping and me getting so dirty. They are obviously enjoying this!

Rainy Rainy Day

Yesterday when I came home from work, Lacy was sitting on the porch with a tennis ball in her mouth. I guess she was just waiting for me to get home to play. She still had her chain attached to her, and seemed quite comfy. I unhooked her and let her play a bit while I re-engineered her runner. On the way to the back yard I step around a hole and ended up stepping directly in one that caused me to twist my ankle. Apparently the doggies thought that I was playing because they took that opportunity to jump on me. I still have recovered from the playful attack last week. Belle left two large brusies on my leg from her big paws. I was hoping they would be the shape of her paw, but they are more rounded. Anyway, the neighbors cleaned out some closets or something because they have a christmas tree and some old clothing by the road to be picked up by the city. Every morning and afternoon, Belle and Lacy decide that they need to go "shopping" at the neighbors. They bring it back home and just lay in the yard. Occassionally they will pick it up and drag it to another spot. Then they get tired of it and bring something else over. I spend most of my days picking up after them. They are really good dogs though. I can't believe how big Lacy is getting. She is getting so tall... so fast. Zac is going to be so surprised when he comes home.
Today it started raining pretty bad before I got home. I just knew that when I pulled up in the driveway I would see a chocolate lab coming to greet me. Needless to say I was surprised when she was lying in the back yard jsut as content, still connected to her runner. I was so proud, I let her off to play in the rain with Belle. They have had a ball, but have managed to be very destructive the little thieves that they are...

Lacy is still playing houdini...

but it's ok, I keep finding temporary fixes for her escape. She is completely better now and eating like crazy. I cannot believe how big she is getting. She is getting tall. She can jump up and her head will be the same height as mine. When she does, she puts her paw on my shoulder. She is still a big baby though and is just the happiest dog anyone could ask for. Everyone comments on how pretty she is... As soon as I let her off the runner each day, she runs to the faucet for a fresh drink and then to the front door to come in for a while. She makes her rounds through the house just checking to see what has changed. Her favorite place is the kitchen, specifically the stove. She loves to see what is cooking. She is so smart, sometimes a little too smart. Belle is finally letting her eat her food without me having to stand guard. Lacy is doing better when we walk about staying by my side. She and Belle love to trash the yard... they find things everywhere. I keep telling them they need to clean up their mess, but for some reason I am always the one who has to clean it up for them. I guess that's about it for now. Here are some of the newest photos of Lacy.

The next morning.... Lacy discovered that she must be related to Houdini

Well this morning, I get Lacy out of the kennel. I kind of rig her chain so that I can go to work and deal with a better solution until I get home. I clip the chain to itself, well, I had not gotten back inside the house and answered the phone good until I see Lacy staring at me through the storm door. So I put her back in the kennel until I get home from work, since I will only be gone a few hours. When I got home from work, I decided to tie wrap her chain to the runner until I can run to the store. I used heavy duty industrial tie wraps and double tied it. Next thing I know Lacy is at the door again. I give up and just decide that we will go for a walk. So we did... then we got back I kept her on her lease and just secured it to items on teh porch, it worked ok, but she pulled them all over the place. I realize that it's useless, and I head to get a new chain. In the meantime, she goes back to the kennel. The kennel is now my best friend. So I get the new tie down for Lacy and just kind of let her run with Lacy while I am connecting everything together. She still has the leash on while she is playing with Belle. No biggie. So everything is hooked up, so I call Lacy over and she comes and gives kisses. I realize that she doesn't have the leash, nor does she have the collar. She had been playing in the field, so off I go to find it. Treking through the cudzu. I can't find ti anywhere, finally I do, then I can't find Lacy. I can see she is in a big embankment that is covered, but I don't know what she is doing. That's when I heard a big splash. She is now playing in the creek. Great, so now I have to try and get her out of the creek. It has started to sprinkle a bit and I am already dirty from Belle and Lacy playing with me. I adjust her collar to fit her a little tighter, she keeps running out of it, finally it is perfect. She gets some water from the fauct to settle her down a bit, then we head back to the runner. I get her all hooked up and figure that she will love this lead because she can go 15 feet. I come in side, hear her barking and realize that she has tangled herself. I go outside and untangle her. Fix her chain so that she can't get tangled around the swingset again... I am now by this time not only dirty, I am also covered in mud. It is raining and Belle and Lacy both insist on greeting me with a hug. I come inside to take a shower, I get all clean up and in my nice clean pjs... I hear Lacy bark again, so I look out the kitchen window. All I could do was laugh.... this is what I found.

Lacy had somehow managed to get stuck in the swing. So, as much as I figured I would have to come right back in and take another shower, I just donned my Lacy and Belle cover up (the thing I cover myself with to keep them from getting my clothes dirty)and headed back out into the rain... with ym hair that was almost dry and of course my camera. It was too funny. Anyway, I managed to get her untangled, and still managed to stay clean. Now, she is just chilling and probably planning her next escape!

She is definitely making me rethink the whole kids decision... lol

Lacy hasn't been feeling well...

Lacy has been vomiting about once a day. I talked to the vet and they said to give her some pepto in the morning and at night. That was easier said than done. I ended up wearing more pepto than she actually got in her tummy. I tried everything, pouring it down her throat, putting it on bread, giving it through a straw, giving it with a spoon, putting it in her food and in her water. She wouldn't eat or drink, so I was really worried. Mom and I finally got her to take it by squirting it down her throat. When I woudl try and give her the medicine, she woudl turn her nose up... seriously! I have a snooty dog!!!!! I guess that's what I get for buying the generic pepto...

Sunday and Monday she and Belle decided to go over to Belle's house for a visit. I figure she must have gotten into something over there. So Tuesday night she was not allowed to play, she did not like that, so when I got home from Auburn, she was waiting for me on the porch. She had broken her chain. Now she had gotten her collar and leash off before, but this was crazy. I had no clue she was so strong. It was bedtime, so she went into the kennel anyway....

Lacy's First Day Living in Alabama

September 22, 2007
This morning Zac and I woke up bright and early and loaded Lacy and her belongings in the truck. We were taking her to her new home in Alabama. She will be staying with me while Zac in Afghanistan. She has been here to visit, but has never stayed for more than a day or two. She has a friend here, Belgium. We call her Belle and the girls call her Butterscotch. Anyway, they were happy to be together again and Lacy setteled in nicely.
After I arrived back home from the airport, it was late and Lacy was already sleeping. She spent her first night outside. The next morning she was ready to play. I fed her, then headed to church. After church, she and I went for a ride in the Explorer. She was kind of stubborn about getting in and out, but she did great after the first time or two. Our first stop was the football field, we went walking around the track. Lacy wanted to stop and smell everything, so we didn't make too many laps. Since we were in the neighborhood, we decided to visit my brother and his family. He wasn't feeling well, but Courtney and Tracy were excited to see Lacy and excited to play. Courtney decided to try and walk Lacy, but decided it was too much trouble because Lacy was too hyper. So I walked her down the street a bit. Lacy awsn't too sure about the neighborhood dogs, so we went back to the Brown residence. Lacy had a great time playing and running in the yard. She loved fetching the ball and getting the animals' hairbrush. We decided to head home for the evening and play with Belle a little bit. After that it was time for bed. Lacy spent that night in the kennel. The next morning was Monday and I was off work. We went for our walk and played with Belle. The next few days were pretty much the same.

Lacy loves to drink directly out of the faucet. She also likes to use her paws as hands and help hold the water bowl.

Lacy and Belle love to run and play.
